In this week’s list of unmissable news brand content: behind the scenes of the Trump trial, a former ranger runs the London Marathon as a rhino and explore the positives of seaweed packaging…
1. “On your marks, get set…charge?”
In one of the busiest London Marathons in recent years, an estimated 50,000 runners gathered in Greenwich in pursuit of the fastest times and taking part in the life-changing experience.
David McNab, a former ranger from South Africa, attempted to run the fastest marathon while dressed in a 10kg rhino costume. McNab set a target to beat four hours and six minutes with his goal to raise awareness for the endangered animal.
In an Express post shared on X, he says: “I know the trouble the rhinos are in, and they need all the help they can get. And it’s a really cool thing to do I think”
2. Seaweed packaging
Couple Julia Marsh and Matt Mayes founded company ‘Sway’ with the aim to try and replace the plastic packaging used in shops and home deliveries with a sustainable, compostable alternative: seaweed.
“Plastic comes from petroleum, so every day when you open up your snack wrapper or you receive your Amazon order, it’s coming packaged in plastic which comes from fossil fuels,” says Marsh.
“It’s not hard for brands to switch to our material because it works in the systems they already use.”
She adds: “I think replacements for plastic should go even further, I think they should do good,” she says.
The Guardian’ video on TikTok explains how the company makes seaweed plastic, how this plastic replacement can benefit the oceans and environment, and even if you can eat it.
3. Powerful trio at sea
An all-female team has set their hopes on becoming the first trio to row 8,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean non-stop to “inspire young people to feel that anything is possible”.
The team, named ‘Seas The Day’, made up of Miriam Payne, 24, Lottie Hopkinson-Woolley, also 24, and Jess Rowe, 27, aims to break three records with their feat, which will see them spend up to six months at sea. They hope to become the youngest group to row across the Pacific Ocean, as well as the first trio to take on the challenge non-stop and unsupported.
4. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”
The Daily Mail reveals a brand-new podcast, ‘The Apple and The Tree’, hosted by TV presenter and podcaster Vogue Williams. The concept of the podcast sees a parent and their adult child ask each other about the parts of their shared history they’ve always wanted to know more about but never given themselves the time to do so.
The show touches on intimate and revealing conversations that move through love, grief, shame, sexuality, religion, addiction, identity and much more. At the end of each episode, Vogue and the guests unpack what’s been shared to discover if the apple really does fall far from the tree.
5. Trump trial
Former US president Donald Trump has made history by becoming the first American president to face a criminal trial. Legal arguments from just one of four criminal cases against him already have expert divided. The Times podcast ‘The Story’ dives deep into the details behind the ‘hush money’ trial from the perspective of the women at the centre of it all: Stormy Daniels.
