This year’s campaign will bounce back from Covid to clean up Britain for the Jubilee year
After lockdown restrictions put dampeners on the last two litter picks, the Daily Mail is now urging readers to get involved in 2022. The Spring Clean, organised by Keep Britain Tidy and backed by the news brand, will run from 25 March to 19 April.
The publisher also emphasises the importance of signing up as the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations get underway, with this year’s campaign harking back to the Daily Mail’s ‘Clean for the Queen’ Diamond Jubilee drive in 2012.
With over half a million ‘litter heroes’ participating in previous years, the Great British Spring Clean constitutes the country’s biggest environmental action, helping to clear rubbish in streets, parks, fields, riverbanks and beaches.
Last year’s Spring Clean resulted in volunteers picking litter across a million miles nationwide.
This year’s campaign has received wide-reaching support from government figures such as prime minister Boris Johnson, chancellor Rishi Sunak and environment minister Jo Churchill, as well as Liberal Democrats leader Ed Davey and former athlete Sharron Davies.
Supporting the Daily Mail’s Jubilee litter-picking drive, Johnson said: “I’m proud to join Mail readers in supporting this year’s Great British Spring Clean and commend all those doing their bit to clean up our communities and protect the environment for future generations.”
