The Newsworks Awards celebrate dynamic, creative and purpose-led advertising in trusted multiplatform news brands
The awards will once again reward outstanding achievement across a range of categories, from the best display advertising and content partnerships to the most effective campaign, as well as spotlighting excellent work in social impact and sustainability.
Ross Sergeant, Allwyn’s global head of media, will chair the 2023 Awards. Allwyn is the largest operator of lotteries in Europe and recently won the licence to operate the National Lottery in the UK from February 2024.
Alongside Sergeant on the judging panel will be HSBC head of brand marketing Sarah Mayall, Virgin Media O2 head of media Neil Harrison, Halfords group marketing director Dan Daly, Bicycle London CEO Henry Daglish, OMD managing director Grant Burke and Mindshare managing director Fleur Stoppani.
Last year, Tesco took home advertiser of the year off the back of a series of outstanding and innovative news brand campaigns, while John Ayling & Associates was awarded the Grand Prix by the judges for its RNIB campaign bringing the first ever braille cover wrap to a national print news brand.
Speaking about the awards, Jo Allan, Newsworks CEO, said: “There have been a lot of fantastic news brand campaigns over the past 12 months and I’m excited about seeing those come to life through the awards. I always love being inspired by new ideas and I’m sure this year will not disappoint.”
Ross Sergeant, global head of media at Allwyn, added: “I am very excited to be chairing a fantastic panel of judges for the 2023 Newsworks Awards. News brands reach right into the heart of communities across the country, giving them a voice and fighting for the causes that matter to them.
“This commitment to supporting readers through trusted journalism combined with their reputation for effectiveness is what make news brands such valuable environment for brands to advertise. I’m looking forward to being inspired by outstanding campaigns from across the industry in this year’s awards.”
Entries open on 5 September, with the awards party taking place on 28 November at the spectacular 12th Knot rooftop bar on London’s South Bank.
