In this week’s list of unmissable news brand content include an emotional tribute to the late Rob Burrow, a campaign launched to tackle sexist abuse in schools and retired schoolteacher travels to capture ‘herstories’ from across the US…
1. Campaign to tackle sexist abuse in schools
The Evening Standard has launched its ‘Show Respect’ campaign, an initiative to tackle violence against girls by funding school workshops about healthy relationships.
The project follows evidence about what works in reducing youth violence, deploying £500,000 from the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund to get the ball rolling.
Tender, a charity which works with school communities, works with teachers to run training sessions so they can build confidence in talking about issues around healthy relationships with their students and aim to prevent bad things from happening to young people.
2. Tribute to Rob Burrow
Former Leeds Rhinos star Kevin Sinfield pays an emotional tribute to the “bravest best mate”, his former teammate Rob Burrows, after Burrows died following a battle with motor neurone disease.
Leeds Rhinos confirmed Burrow had passed away at the age of 41, Mirror Sport reports on X.
Sinfield says the world has lost “a great man”, adding: “The world has lost a great man and a wonderful friend to so many. You fought so bravely until the end and became a beacon of hope and inspiration, not only for the MND community but for all those who saw and heard your story.
“You will continue to inspire me every single day. I have lost a dear friend and will never forget the special times we shared both on and off the pitch. I would always say that you were pound for pound the toughest player I ever played alongside. However, since your diagnosis, you were the toughest and bravest man I have ever met.
“The last four and a half years you showed the world what living and loving looked like and this was always done with the biggest smile on your face.”
3. Reclaiming old age and queerness through storytelling
From first crush to first love, the closet to coming out and loss to connection for the last 25 years, late retired schoolteacher Arden Eversmeyer travelled from Houston across the US to record hundreds of oral ‘herstories’ from a rapidly disappearing population, the Guardian showcases on YouTube.
Old Lesbians honoured Arden’s legacy by animating the resilient, joyful voices she preserved in the Old Lesbian Oral Herstory Project.
A new 30-minute documentary shows a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience and unwavering spirit of those remarkable women.
4. World’s youngest artist?
One-year-old Ace-Liam Nana Sam Ankrah from Ghana has broken the Guinness World Record as the youngest artist in the world at just one year and 152 days old. Guinness World Records recognised his record after he sold almost his entire collection at an exhibition.
The boy’s mother said she first observed his talent when he was only six months old and now hopes he will take the art world by storm.
5. Latest polling data
The Mirror gives YouTube users a look at the latest polling data as parties battle it out ahead of the general election. The general election on July 4 is a pivotal moment for Britain after 14 years of government by the Conservative Party. The last full parliamentary election was in December 2019, when Boris Johnson won a landslide victory for the Conservatives.
