Alongside this role, the former editorial director of BBC News and co-founder of The News Movement will co-host a new daily podcast, The Daily T, alongside associate editor and executive editor, Camilla Tominey. In her new role as executive editor, Tominey will be editor of The Daily T, as well as co-host, and be responsible for its editorial and audience strategy.
Launching in May, this flagship show will feature agenda-setting news, interviews, debate and discussion from The Telegraph’s newsroom and join its roster of news, investigation, interview and sports podcasts.
This multi-platform media project will be distributed for new and existing audiences across all podcast platforms, YouTube and social media to become one of our readers’ most trusted audio news sources. The Telegraph has substantially increased investment in audio and its operation, improving the listening experience by developing a podcast player in the app and building a new state of the art video podcast studio.
Every Monday–Thursday at 5pm Tominey and Ahmed will deliver expert, credible and characterful audio content to listeners looking for a different perspective on the influential topics of the moment. Ahmed, the former business editor of The Sunday Telegraph, will join Tominey as a columnist, writing a weekly article.
A special weekend edition of The Daily T will run on Fridays, featuring guest hosts and a deeper dive into relevant topics of the week as well as lifestyle features and more.
Camilla Tominey, associate editor and executive editor, daily podcast said: “With a huge year of news ahead, from elections to the Olympics, I’m thrilled to be launching The Daily T supported by my brilliant co-host Kamal Ahmed. The Daily T will be recorded directly from the newsroom, bringing the power of The Telegraph’s award-winning journalism to life.
“As journalists ourselves we will aim to elevate discussions beyond generic reaction to really get to the heart of topical issues that matter most to listeners.”
Kamal Ahmed, Director of Audio said: “I’m delighted to be rejoining The Telegraph at a pivotal time in their editorial journey.
“The audio team already reaches an engaged global audience through their award-winning podcasts such as Ukraine: The Latest, and Bed of Lies. Building on this success, a new daily news podcast brings a huge opportunity to reach The Telegraph audience and beyond in new ways, giving readers the option to consume the news on their preferred platform.
“The Daily T will be quick to react to the big issues and inform our great audiences — and there is no one better to be doing this with than Camilla, whip smart, funny and with a wealth of experience.”
