The Society of Editors’ awards programme celebrates the best in journalism.
The Press Awards recognise exemplary reporting, investigations, campaigns, scoops and much more, covering a total of 49 categories.
The top awards include Daily Newspaper of the Year, where the contenders are Daily Express, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Financial Times, i, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian and The Times.
And another popular award is Campaign of the Year, which is sponsored by Newsworks this year. Applauding the very best in news brand campaigning, the nominees are ‘Be a Poppy Star’ by The Sun, ‘End This Injustice’ by Daily Express, ‘Food For London Now’ and ‘Help the Hungry’ by Evening Standard and The Independent, ‘Hear Our Voice’ by Sunday Post, ‘Housing Scandal’ by The Sunday Times, ‘Let them hold hands’ by Daily Mail, ‘Mail Force’ by Daily Mail and ‘Clean Air for All Campaign’ by The Times.
Chair of the judges and executive director of the Society of Editors, Ian Murray, said: “We will surely always look back at 2020 in awe, not just for the fact it produced the greatest news story probably of our lifetimes, but the way in which the Press rose to the challenge in reporting it.
“Entries submitted for the 2020 Society of Editors’ Press Awards underscore the depth of talent and sheer professionalism that underpins the UK national press. This shortlist of those in the running for the awards proves once again that UK journalism is at the top of its game.”
The winners will be announced at a celebratory virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday 31 March.
