Brands and publishers celebrate record-breaking and inspirational England team with joyous ads and front pages
As the England team lift the trophy after a nail-biting 2-1 victory against Germany, making history and bringing home the first major silverware in 56 years, news brands capture the mood of the nation with a stellar selection of triumphant front pages.
Advertisers also got in on the action, turning to news brands to deliver tactical messages of pride and jubilation.
“Record breakers. History makers. Champions” says one Starling Bank ad. “Proudly championing the women’s game today, tomorrow – and beyond.”
Dettol, Budweiser, Heinz, Walkers, P&O Cruises were among others to congratulate the Lionesses today, with Weetabix, Booking.com, Sky and the National Lottery cheering them on yesterday.
EE delivered a powerful message: “11 million people watch Women’s football… whatever happens, hope wins,” hitting back at a misjudged tweet suggesting that “no-one wants to watch”.
Meanwhile, The Times and The Sunday Times reminded readers of female “history makers” with copy reading: “From the right to vote to the right to play, congratulations to the Lionesses, UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Champions.”
