Small in size but not in ambition, the Newsworks team punched well above its weight to finish a fantastic 11th out of more than 25 teams at the 2025 Ultimate Sports Day in support of Childline
Up against giants from across the media industry, the mighty Newsworks minnows showed their versatility across several sports day staples.
A famous victory on the velcro wall was followed up by excellent second places on the sweeper arm and the mascot running races. Newsworks also bagged another stunning silver at the tug of war — without the use of gloves!
It was a successful day all round for news brands, as publishers across the industry showed their sporting prowess; News UK took the overall gold with Mail Metro Media a brilliant bronze. Ozone’s two teams also were top performers, finishing in 7th and 13th, while its regional hub lead Dougie Gunning took home the ‘brawn of the bunch’ award.
The real winners, however, were the NSPCC and the thousands of vulnerable children who rely on services such as Childline every day. The current total raised from this year’s sports day stands at more than £185,000, meaning so far Childline can now fund 46,250 contacts from children and young people who need it.
The money raised from 2024’s event allowed Childline to operate for eight full days, with 2025’s total again set to secure crucial care for kids in need.
