Newsworks’ one-day event on 9 June will feature editorial and commercial panels that celebrate the very best of news brands
Kicking off at 10am, the day starts with a highly anticipated all-female editors’ panel, where event host Cathy Newman will discuss holding power to account, the importance of a free press and more with the Mirror’s Alison Phillips, the Evening Standard’s Charlotte Ross and The Sun’s Victoria Newton.
After that comes the day’s first commercial panel, exploring why journalism matters to advertisers as much as it does to readers and society. The session features both agency- and client-side leaders as well as top panellists from news brands’ commercial operations.
Then, Downing Street chief of staff Steve Barclay will join Newsworks’ Jo Allan and Campaign’s Gideon Spanier to discuss the news brand industry’s ‘All Together’ public interest campaign during the pandemic, followed by a panel featuring some of journalism’s most distinguished campaigning reporters, including Amelia Gentleman and David Cohen, and the causes they have championed over the years.
Just before lunch, the event will turn to news brands’ rising stars, who will give their perspectives to Cathy Newman on how they see the industry developing in the future, as well as some of the best (and weirdest) highlights of their careers so far.
The political pundit showdown will take to the stage after the break, with Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce debating the biggest headlines of our times alongside Julia Hartley-Brewer. That’s followed by a session discussing the all-important subjects of brand safety and responsible media investment with more commercial leaders from across the industry including Lloyds Banking Group’s Richard Warren.
Finally, the sports panel will lead the event into stoppage time, tackling hot topics such as the surge in interest in women’s sport and how the sporting world can inspire change around issues of racism and mental health.
