1. Key moments of the King’s speech
King Charles has delivered his first King’s speech to parliament, marking the start of the parliamentary year where he outlined 21 laws that ministers intend to pass. The king paid tribute to his mother the late Queen Elizabeth’s “legacy of service and devotion” as he conducted the state opening of parliament for the first time as monarch.

2. African music industry’s new beginnings
Kendrick Lamar is aiming to transform the African music industry with a major new project. According to Metro’s Instagram, Lamar along with company pgLang are working on a huge show in Rwanda that he will headline, in hopes of solving the issue of artists missing Africa off their world tours.
It is part of a series called Move Afrika that will see huge shows for at least the next five years allowing major artists to tour the continent more easily. Global Citizen’s CEO thinks that Lamar will show other artists just how many opportunities Africa holds for music.
3. CFDA Fashion Awards
Celebrities flooded the American Museum of Natural History in New York City for the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards. Anne Hathaway, Kim Petras, Kim Kardashian and Demi Moore are just a few of the stars who dressed to impress as they celebrated the biggest names in the US fashion industry.

4. Captain’s controversy
The Times podcast ‘The stories of our times’ investigated how the late Captain Tom’s charity got caught up in controversy. A global phenomenon, Captain Sir Thomas Moore was a former British Army officer known for his efforts to raise money for charity in the build-up to his 100th birthday during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.
After his passing, The Captain Tom Foundation has come under scrutiny by the Charity Commission for more than a year in relation to potential conflicts of interest between the charity and businesses owned by his daughter and her husband. The family is also facing questions over his daughter’s book deal, an unauthorised spa and concerns over mismanagement and compliance with charity law.
5. Feline facial expressions
Cats have 276 facial expressions, a new study claims. According to The Times’ TikTok channel, scientists suggest this evolved as a result of them living alongside humans. The study involved dozens of cats being filmed at the Cat Cafe Lounge in Los Angeles, which is a non-profit organisation where homeless cats live while being put up for adoption. Footage was examined and 276 different expressions were identified.
