The publisher expands its audio offering with three new productions and promotes Samantha Herbert to the newly-created head of digital strategy role
The Evening Standard’s three new podcasts are launching in early 2022, covering business, history and rugby. In the weekly series ‘An Invitation to Meet…’, David Marsland sits down exclusively with some of the most influential businesspeople in London. The first episode, featuring Coutts & Co CEO Peter Flavel, kicked off last month.
Elsewhere, ‘ES History of London’ will explore the news brand’s archives through the stories that have made the capital the city it is today, while Lawrence Dallaglio will front ‘Evening Standard Rugby Podcast’, supported by Fuller’s London Pride.
Dallaglio’s podcast will feature a special live recording from the Premiership Final at Twickenham in June.
Hosting series such as ‘Tech and Science Daily’ and daily current affairs primer ‘The Leader’, audio has been a great success for the Evening Standard, with its award-nominated podcasts receiving over half a million monthly listens last year and a total audience growth of 190% since January 2021.
Also announced this week was the promotion of Samantha Herbert to the newly-created role of head of digital strategy.
She will be responsible for driving online strategy and diversification, as well as growing the news brand’s audience and working across all departments to deliver a raft of editorial innovations.
Alongside agenda-setting print products, the creation of the role underlines the Evening Standard’s commitment to a digital-first strategy focussed on delivering quality insights and innovative products to readers and brands through multiple touch points.
Commenting on her new appointment, Herbert said: “I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role at such an exciting time for the Standard.
“We have a range of innovative plans in the pipeline, which will add a vibrant new layer to the Standard brand and will allow us to deliver our fantastic content to a broader digital audience.”
