Mail titles have joined forces to urge readers to donate to the campaign, coordinated by the publisher’s Mail Force Charity
In just 24 hours generous Mail readers donated £268,000 to the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday Ukraine Refugee Appeal. This increased to £1.25 million after only three days of the campaign going live.
Alongside other donations including from the Duchess of Cornwall, the campaign has now made a record-breaking £2.55 million as of Thursday,
The prime minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Keir Starmer have both backed the call for urgent donations – any money raised will go to reputable charities that are already working on the ground.
The first £500,000 of the campaign is being given to CARE International, which is delivering aid inside Ukraine, including food, sleeping bags, mats, nappies and hygiene kits for families fleeing the fighting.
Ted Verity, editor of Mail Newspapers, thanked readers for their “extraordinary generosity”, adding: “We will ensure every penny of the campaign money, now being collected by the Mail Force charity, is being passed to the aid organisations helping with this emergency crisis.”
