1. Locked eyes on the District line
The Evening Standard’s podcast ‘London Love Stories’, hosted by Katie Strick, showcases real stories of Londoners who found love in the city. This week’s insight into romance in the city featured a real-life Sliding Doors meet-cute. Host Strick met listeners Aaron and Rachel, who fell in love and moved in together just five weeks after a chance encounter on the Tube.
2. “Where dreams are made of”
Londoners got a surprise performance during their commute through St Pancras train station as Alicia Keys turned up to perform a few of her biggest chart hits. Keys serenaded the crowd with four of her bestsellers, making a small lyric adjustment to ‘Empire State of Mind’ to include London.
3. The final leg
Former Rugby League star and now England Rugby Union coach Kevin Sinfield has completed his mammoth challenge of running 190.4 miles in seven days, crossing the line in the capital. After completing the outstanding feat, Kevin broke down and hugged his team at the finish line on The Mall, before exclaiming: “I’m knackered and delighted.” He jogged home to huge applause after completing the final leg of his mammoth task, all done to raise money for those affected by motor neurone disease (MND).
4. King of the jungle
The Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson was crowned King of the Jungle on the latest ‘I’m A Celebrity’ series, beating boxer Tony Bellew and politician Nigel Farage. Thompson’s likeable and enthusiastic personality proved to be a hit with viewers. The Daily Mail shared to its Instagram the sweet moment he arrived at the hotel from camp and was greeted by all his castmates.
5. Hollywood Walk of Fame
Actor Zac Efron has been honoured with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Efron paid tribute to late Friends icon Matthew Perry during his acceptance speech. He thanked Perry for motivating him to reach the next stage of his career after appearing together in the film ‘17 Again’ in 2009.
He said: “Collaborating with him was so much fun and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career. For that, thank you so much Matthew.”
“Thinking about you a lot today”, he added, glancing up to the sky.
