Reporting directly to Ted Verity, Editor, Mail Newspapers and Vere Harmsworth, director of publishing strategy, this new position will see the Mail expand its podcast and digital operations.
East begins his new role, which will involve commissioning new shows and delivering compelling content, on Tuesday 8 August.
A podcast veteran, he is also a successful television presenter, journalist, and broadcaster across all mediums, who has worked for some of the biggest media brands in the world.
His podcasts for clients such as Bauer, Samsung, Netflix and Sky, also included The Smart 7, a lockdown project which became one of the UK’s most popular daily news podcasts.
East began his media career building up Sky’s streaming platform before creating the hugely successful gossip site Holy Moly, which he sold to Endemol Shine in 2011.
Ted Verity, editor of Mail Newspapers, said: “Podcasts are a natural extension of what the Mail does best – fabulous storytelling. I’m hugely looking forward to Jamie helping us exploit the massive potential I’m convinced we have in this area.”
Jamie East said: “This is truly one of the greatest opportunities in podcasting today — and I’m delighted the Mail have entrusted me with such a huge brand and audience. I cannot wait to get started.”
