News publishers and their journalists took home 16 award wins and eight highly commended placements at Thursday night’s award ceremony
Publishers were recognised for their work across a wide spectrum of categories, from politics and investigations to travel and comments.
Pippa Crerar, political editor at the Guardian and formerly the Daily Mirror until earlier this year, won three awards, taking home the win for Politics Journalism as well as being named both Journalist of the Year and Woman of the Year.
Meanwhile, The Sun’s Noa Hoffman was named Young Journalist of the Year, Susie Coen won Investigation of the Year for her work in the Daily Mail on the dangers of smart motorways, and The Telegraph’s reporting of Downing Street lockdown parties around Prince Philip’s funeral took home Scoop of the Year.
The Sunday Times’ Camilla Long won in the Comments category, while The Independent’s Simon Calder and Rebecca Thomas were the winners of the Travel and Health and Life Sciences Journalism categories respectively.
Newsworks sponsored the Campaign of the Year category, with the award going to openDemocracy for its investigation into transparency in British public life. The Sunday Times was highly commended for its ‘Scandal worse than thalidomide’ investigation.
