The landmark number reflects the growing impact of Times Radio’s fast-growing news channel on YouTube
In the past five years, the Times Radio YouTube channel has seen huge successes covering UK and world politics, global security and real-life stories. The most-viewed videos on the channel include a mix of expert analysis, touching interviews and in-depth political insight.
From the first piece of content ever posted — an interview with then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the day the station launched — the visualised channel for Times Radio now enjoys 58 million views on YouTube every month.
In addition to the visualised audio content from the Times Radio schedule, the brand has also seen success with Frontline, a YouTube-first video series focused on the Ukraine war and wider global defence stories. With over 850 episodes published, it has become a go-to resource for analysis of the conflict.
On the back of Frontline’s success, Times Radio has launched a further three YouTube-first video series looking at Donald Trump’s presidency (The Trump Report), the global security race (Superpowers) and an in-depth interview series with academics and commentators (Thinkers).
Jack Kennedy, head of content for News Broadcasting Digital, said: “This is a brilliant achievement for a relatively new news brand and has set the standard for how to grow a YouTube channel in the news space for modern media companies.
“Hitting one billion lifetime channel views is a testament to the focus and hard work done on a daily basis by a video team turning brilliant radio into a brilliant video experience whilst also creating premium audience-focused original content.”
Tim Levell, programme director, Times Radio, said: “The growth of video content from Times Radio has been nothing short of extraordinary. Listeners have always loved the intelligent, in-depth interviews on Times Radio, in which presenters give expert guests the space to speak without interruption.
“Publishing the interviews on YouTube, as well as creating video-only features, has enabled them to reach huge new audiences in the UK and around the world. The whole team at Times Radio has taken great pleasure in seeing the runaway success of the brand on the world’s dominant video-viewing platform.”
