With almost one million young Brits not in unemployment, education or training, ‘Destination Unknown’ aims to tackle the rise of youth unemployment
The campaign, launched last Thursday with the weekly print edition of The London Standard and the news brand’s daily podcast, highlights the inspiring story of restaurant owner Gina. Gina, who had been serving a prison sentence in HMP Holloway, was visited by the King’s Trust to help inmates turn their passions into businesses.
Gina now pays it forward by hiring others also in need of a second chance in life.
To kickstart the campaign, The Standard’s Dispossessed Fund has pledged £500,000 to the campaign. Half will fund King’s Trust programmes in London, while the other half will fund other grassroots projects across the capital.
“We want to help catch those young people who are leaving education without a destination and help them build the skills and confidence to transform their lives”, The Standard’s campaigns editor David Cohen told online viewers in video content for the launch.
