Mail Metro Media and image-recognition platform Phuzion Media are working together to enhance the shopping experience of YOU magazine readers.
In Sunday 27th June’s issue of YOU (free with The Mail on Sunday), readers will be able to use the new technology to point their mobile device at any page – including the front cover – take a picture of the product they are interested in and be taken straight to it on the advertiser’s website.
The technology is even able to read layered images, meaning readers can shop an entire collection of pieces from a styled look in one go – from earrings down to shoes.
YOU is the very first newspaper magazine to trial the disruptive new tech, making products and services on its printed pages immediately shoppable and interactive without the addition of QR codes or watermarking changing the editorial design or creative.
Providing a seamless reader shopping experience, it will allow brands to connect with readers in an innovative, cross-platform way.
Grant Woodthorpe, executive director – investment, Mail Metro Media said: “This is a really interesting development in print technology and we’re very excited that YOU magazine is the first newspaper magazine to bring it to market.
“Featuring 150 products on average per issue, YOU has an extensive track record of recommending items to readers that go on to sell out almost immediately after publication, and with Phuzion Media’s technology we can now keep those readers within the YOU ecosystem, directing them to the product pages of our advertisers, or onto YOU’s social pages, instead of passing them over to Google.
“Above all, we can now provide a seamless shopping experience for YOU’s loyal audience.”
