Former Lioness Jess Clarke presents trophy to winners of five-a-side football tournament for women in media
13 teams representing media companies from across the UK competed in the third edition of the Mail Metro Media Cup in partnership with Campaign on Wednesday 15 July in London.
Following two very successful years, the only five-a-side football tournament for women in media returned to the rooftop of PowerLeague Battersea for a fantastic day of camaraderie and competition.
The day culminated in a thrilling final, with Microsoft winning 2-1 against runner-up JP Morgan. The ‘Player of the Tournament’ prize, chosen by former England Lioness, Jess Clarke, was awarded to Anna Akel at Microsoft.
Jess hosted the prize-giving ceremony before players and supporters enjoyed a barbecue celebration ahead of England’s FIFA World Cup semi-final against Argentina.
Commenting from the sidelines, Mail Metro Media’s chief revenue officer Dom Williams said: “Three years in, and the Mail Metro Media Cup just keeps growing – more teams, more energy, and more brilliant women in our industry getting the chance to compete together.
“Having Jess here today, given everything she’s achieved and continues to give to the women’s game, was a brilliant reminder of exactly why events like this matter.
“Congratulations to today’s winners and to every single player who got involved! We’ll be back next year with our continued passion for promoting women’s sport and championing inclusivity in media and beyond.”
Mail Metro Media’s team captain and direct sales commercial growth lead, Ella Serer, added: “I’m so proud of team Mail Metro Media, both for how they played today and for everything that goes into making this event happen each year.
“It’s brilliant to see the Mail Metro Media Cup keep growing and to welcome even more companies into the fold this year. Getting to spend the day with Jess Clarke, someone who has given so much to English football and to inspiring the next generation, made it even more special.”
Other teams competing in this year’s Mail Metro Media Cup included Medialab, the7stars, Ozone, Mail Metro Media, Sky Bet, Goodstuff, Wickes, Black Diamond, MG OMD and WPP.
