Alford brings extensive experience in newspapers, magazines and agency editorial content to the role.
The new executive director, who started the role on 14 July, has worked in regional titles as well as national news brands, both in reporting and executive roles.
Speaking about the new appointment, the Society of Editor’s chair Ian MacGregor said: “It is great that Dawn Alford is joining us as executive director. Dawn has tremendous experience of national and regional news organisations, has a deep commitment to press freedom, and is passionate about taking the Society forward.”
