Our two quick-fire quiz teams were challenged to remember the biggest headlines of 2024 and discover how well they really knew Britain’s young news readers
With the session hosted by Newsworks’ director of agency and client services Niki West and insight director Heather Dansie, the News Generation Game pitted three ‘Fleetwood Hacks’ against three ‘Bright Young Things’ in a true battle of the ages.
Team ‘Fleetwood Hacks’ featured OMD managing director Grant Burke, Reach executive director of advertising and strategy Emma Callaghan and Wavemaker head of strategy Monica Majumdar.
Representing Team ‘Bright Young Things’ were Goodstuff publishing executive Tiggy Dowdeswell, Mail Metro Media junior agency partner Tilly Preece and Mindshare publishing planner and buyer Kai Nicholls, who was named rising agency star of the year at the 2024 Newsworks Awards.
The quiz’s four rounds tested the teams’ ability to navigate the serious, surprising and downright silly headlines from 2024, as well as challenging their preconceptions around the habits of Britain’s youngest generation of news readers with insights from our ‘Youth’ research.
In a tightly-contested match, ‘Bright Young Things’ pipped ‘Fleetwood Hacks’ to the line, scoring 60 points versus the industry legends’ 50 points.
The session took place at MediaWeek Live, an all-day event at London’s 1 Wimpole Street to inspire media professionals in the first five years of their career.
