The news brands’ readers have been raising money for the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, the Refugee Council of Britain and Outward Bound
The match-funders of the appeal’s three chosen charities have been doubling readers’ generous gifts, with donations still being taken until 31 January. Of the funds raised so far, £362,000 has been pledged for the WWT, £780,000 for the Refugee Council and £1.13 million for Outward Beyond.
The WWT will use the money to continue to roll back the decades-long loss of Britain’s wetlands, creating and restoring nearly 250,000 new acres, helping capture carbon, protecting communities from flooding and more.
Meanwhile, the Refugee Council will continue to welcome new arrivals with English language classes, advocacy support and help with mental health and integration. It was also develop and expand its employment programmes to help refugees to continue their careers.
Finally, Outward Bound will use their funds to scale back up its services after the pandemic, aiming to fill its outdoor education centres with 25,000 needy and deserving young people deprived of time outside urban areas or away from the difficulties of their day-to-day lives.
