With England’s glorious EURO 2022 triumph still in the memory and the men’s World Cup in Qatar just around the corner, journalist Sonya Thomas will lead a panel focussing on the power of journalism through a sporting lens
Discussing the sporting angle behind journalism’s ability to hold power to account, to expose truth and to inform and entertain readers, the panel will align with Huddle 2022’s wider sub-theme of ‘The Power of Good Media’, stressing the responsibility the media has in being a force for good in society.
Newsworks’ session will tackle this theme by raising journalism and advertising’s role in key issues such as promoting women’s sport and condemning discrimination and abuse, as well as how sport can be harnessed to inspire positive change.
The panellists will also look into their crystal balls to discuss what awaits England’s men’s team in November’s football World Cup in Qatar.
Chairing the panel, Sonya Thomas is a freelance journalist and former England, Saracens and Wasps rugby player. She will be joined by The Guardian’s women’s football writer Suzanne Wrack, The Telegraph’s women’s sports reporter Fiona Tomas, and James White, chief commercial officer at the Evening Standard.
The panel will take place at 9:45am at Mindshare Huddle on Thursday 15 September.
