News brands are playing a vital role for society throughout the cost-of-living crisis, new research shows, with 62% of people saying journalists are playing a “valuable role” in covering key issues. Newsworks’ study shows that journalists are helping readers navigate these difficult times by providing information and advice, raising important issues, and unpicking and challenging government policies. From practical tips to in-depth editorial, this special deep dive looks at what publishers are doing to help people make their money go further.
Meanwhile, Labour leader Keir Starmer has contributed to the NMA’s Journalism Matters campaign, supporting the move to make tech platforms pay for news content, saying “it’s only fair that creators are fairly rewarded for their work and not just the platforms that profit from it”. And he’s not the only one showing his love and appreciation for news brands this week. Pop icon Katy Perry tweeted about how “romantic” newspapers are.
