Metro’s main TikTok account has hit one million followers, providing their digital audience with news, gaming, entertainment and sport
Since launching its renewed digital strategy in March 2023, Metro has increased followers by 12,400% and grown from a team of two to 16 producers. The team creates clips, user generated content, voiceovers and presenter-led videos every day across their six TikTok accounts.
In December, the main account attracted 446 million views, with coverage of Syria and alternative Christmas stories doing particularly well.
“This highlights just how powerful short-form video has become for news distribution”, Metro editor-in-chief Deborah Arthurs said. “Audiences still want to engage with news content, they just want to consume it in a different way.
“It is why at Metro we have invested in the growth of our social video team over the past 12 months and will continue to do so.”
Metro head of social video Alex Goldsmith added: “Reaching one million followers on the MetroUK TikTok page is an extraordinary milestone.
“It’s a testament to our team’s deep understanding of the platform, our knack for connecting with younger audiences, and our innovative and thoughtful approach to storytelling.”
