The i paper is calling for contributions from readers ahead of its 10-year anniversary later on October 26.
In the run-up to a special anniversary edition next Monday, the paper will be publishing stories which answer questions such as – how has your life change in the past 10 years? Have you been a reader since day one? And what made you first pick up the i?
The paper is also running a competition for children aged 10 and under to design a front page on an issue they care about.
The winner’s design will be published in the paper’s anniversary edition.
Announcing the celebrations, Barbara Speed, the i’s comment editor said, “Almost 10 years ago, a group of journalists did something that, on the face of it, seemed foolhardy: they launched a new national newspaper.
“They had little idea what i’s first decade would bring, or that any 10th-birthday party would have a limit of six attendees (if we’re lucky). But at least the feedback from readers was clear: you demanded non-partisan, trustworthy journalism. Through the launches of a website, weekend edition, apps and newsletters, that mission hasn’t changed.
“That feedback from i readers – often encouraging, sometimes brutal – has shaped the newspaper today. We are here only because you are. So we would like to hear from you – as many of you as possible – ahead of our birthday on 26 October. In the run-up to a special anniversary edition, we will be publishing your stories.”
The paper is accepting contributions sent to [email protected] with the subject line “i turns 10”, including the contributor’s full name and phone number.
