Nicolas Cecil takes over as political editor as his long-serving predecessor Joe Murphy retires.
Cecil, who has been deputy political editor for the publisher since 2015, will be taking over the role from 19 July. Outgoing editor Murphy, who has been in post for 17 years, will be leaving the team to pursue a “gap decade”.
Alongside Cecil’s appointment, two more team announcements have been made regarding the politics desk. David Bond will be joining as deputy political editor, moving from the Financial Times where he is currently Brexit editor. Bond has previously worked on the Evening Standard’s sports coverage.
They will also be joined by Sophia Sleigh, who has been promoted to political correspondent.
