The ‘Remember me’ campaign encourages readers to donate money to help build a memorial in St Paul’s Cathedral, with the hope of uniting people from all faiths and backgrounds across the UK.
The striking feature will include a portico engraved with the words ‘Remember me’ and screens in the chapel will play host to an online book of remembrance – take a closer look here.
In order to finalise the project by next year’s second pandemic anniversary in March, the cathedral hopes to raise the funds by midsummer.
Backing the memorial is Prince Charles, who sent the following video message: “People of every faith and of none, believe that each human being is unique and precious.
“This virtual book of remembrance is here to help us remember, not just to recall our loss and sorrow but also to be thankful for everything good that those we have loved brought in to our lives, and all they have given to others. We give thanks for how our lives have been woven together with theirs.”
Greig, editor of the Daily Mail, added: “Thousands of people in Britain have lost a loved one as a result of the COVID pandemic and it is right that we remember this tragic death toll. A memorial in St Paul’s cathedral is a fitting way to remember those who have died.
