The Telegraph and News UK take home three accolades at this year’s AOP Digital Publishing Awards.
Congratulations to Telegraph Media Group for winnning the award for Digital Publishing Company Of The Year Consumer. The award celebrates the success of the new company-wide strategy implemented by The Telegraph’s CEO Nick Hugh, which sets out to serve 10 million registered users and 1 million subscribers by 2023. Since Hugh kicked off the strategy, the publication has embarked on an overhaul of its commercial products and the way it does business across the whole organisation.
As a result, The Telegraph’s registration target of 3m was exceeded, with 4m registrations by the end of the year. At the same time, it saw revenue growth in digital subscriptions and an increase in the proportion of people logged onto its site. Praise has been given to the solid company culture that supports and compliments this new strategy and the encouragement from the across the organisation to champion Hugh’s vision.
News UK took home two awards including Best Research/Insight Project for its Sun Savers loyalty club. The aim of the programme was to defend print sales. Using digital insights and customer research, the programme now plays a significant role in strategic decision making. It has led to +202K new members, accounts for 12% of sales and added 13%pts to its CRM open rates with Sun Savers being the 7th most read section of The Sun.
In addition, News UK won Audience Development Team of the Year. In 2018, The Sun newspaper set its sights on becoming the UK’s biggest digital news brand. To achieve this, the publication decided to place its audience at the centre of The Sun newsroom through editorial strategies, new data models and approaches to SEO, the development of a community team and a close relationship with the News UK tech and UX departments. Sun Online has succeeded and became the UK’s biggest digital news brand by the end of 2018, engaging previously untapped audiences.
Hosted at Old Billigsgate, the awards celebrate the work of the individuals and teams who fuel the success of the UK’s digital publishing sector.
