The latest PAMCo data shows online daily news readership is at a record high with 2.3 million more readers every day.
With 19 million people accessing news online, digital readership accounts for a growing share of the 26 million news readers across all platforms every day. This quarter’s numbers show strength in the news industry, with daily readership still at an all-time high.
Mobile continues to be the most popular platform for accessing news brand content and allows the industry to engage with more 18-34s than ever before – 11 million read quality news content every single week – as news publishers continue to invest in their multi-platform strategies.
Although the data shows that a significant number of people read the news on more than one device, print remains strong. 11 million people pick up the paper every day, that is more than triple the number of Britons who watch Netflix daily.
Newsworks Chair Tracy De Groose commented: “News audiences are in significant growth as people seek to make sense of the rapidly changing world around them. At the same time, news brands are evolving their content strategies to adapt to a multi-platform world.
“The latest PAMCo data clearly dispels two myths: young people are reading the news and with 11 million readers, newspapers are still hugely influential. Whether young or old, people are turning to trusted sources of news.”
