The publisher’s annual Happy List, in association with GoFundMe, spotlights those Britons who have made a difference with their kindness and ingenuity
While the past twelve months have undoubtedly been dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s list features stories from all different experiences and walks of life.
These have included stories of a teenage refugee in London paying it forward for others like him, the 99-year-old determined to keep exercising for good causes during lockdown, and the 10-year-old petitioning the government to create an annual school fundraising day for animals.
The 50 individuals who made this year’s list were picked by a panel but were nominated by The Independent’s readers.
The Happy List was first released in 2008 as an antidote to the many awards that champion wealth and celebrity. Instead, the list applauds those ordinary people that do extraordinary things for their communities.
Now in its 13th year, the news brand is once again presenting the awards in partnership with GoFundMe, the world’s largest online fundraising platform.
