The Times and The Sunday Times today announces it has united with News Corp Australia for an unprecedented international investigation into the global cocaine trade set to be revealed in a new eight-part podcast, video and editorial series, Cocaine Inc. The podcast’s debut episode will launch on Sunday 9th June.
Over the past year, Fiona Hamilton, chief reporter of The Times, David Collins, northern editor of The Sunday Times and Stephen Drill, News Corp Australia reporter, have worked to uncover the truth behind the global cocaine industry where profits are counted in millions and losses measured in murders.
Tim Levell, head of Times podcasts, said;
“This investigation and podcast series demonstrates the power of collaborative journalism. By combining our expertise and resources, we’ve shed light on the dark and often violent world of the global cocaine trade. With exclusive interviews and powerful audio, this unmissable series sets a new standard for investigating and addressing complex global issues.”
The investigation spans ten cities in six countries including England, Colombia, Mexico, the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and Australia, across four continents. The three reporters travelled fifty thousand kilometres to uncover an estimated £93 billion industry.
The series features exclusive interviews with law enforcement, drug dealers, former gangsters, and a cash mule. It also tells the personal stories of those who have lost loved ones to the industry.
