The publisher unveiled a host of initiatives to mark the day, including working with Heart of England Forest on behalf of its clients to protect England’s woodland
The Independent partnered with Heart of England Forest (HoEF) on a gifting campaign, making 200 donations on behalf of its clients to make them a ‘tree champion’. This project goes towards ensuring that the ancient woodland of England can regrow and thrive.
The news brand also gifted HoEF a homepage advertising takeover of the UK traffic on the main Independent site for Earth Day itself, raising awareness of the charity’s campaign.
On social media, the publisher shared team members’ climate pledges as well as posting an interview with travel correspondent Helen Coffey, who is going into her third year of her flight-free travel pledge.
Elsewhere, the Independent produced a climate newsletter to give subscribers a roundup of the day’s content, with new editions to be published every week.
